Electronically Brighter

The Shadows are ancient alien species in the science fiction television series Babylon 5. Their home world is Z’ha’dum. Their claim towards order is to contrast the Vorlon’s queries of, “Who are you?”

The Shadows ask the question, “What do you want?” Their purpose and intent is centered more toward desire rather than identity.

Babylon 5’s creator, J. Michael Straczynski, once explained that he chose the name, “Shadows,” due to its commonly understood meaning within Jungian psychology.

This might explain the creepy feeling one gets when confronted with one’s own dark energy. It typically has the same apparent gender as one’s persona. It is possible that it might appear with dark features to a person of any race since it represents a distant and indiscriminate aspect of the mind. The shadow’s appearance and role depends greatly on the living experience of each individual’s perspective viewpoint.
